（Macao, June 15, 2015）Sands China Ltd. was pleased to sponsor a charity initiative Protecting Childhood – Moral Teenage Model Collection which was organised by Beijing Hua Yan Group and officially launched in May at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The initiative was announced at a press conference held by Beijing Hua Yan Group to confirm the staging of Monkey King – a Mythical Theatre Show. The stage spectacular co-created by Sands China and Beijing Hua Yan Group will premiere at the Pacifica Theatre at Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao in early 2016 and will showcase Chinese culture to local and international visitors to Macao.
The initiative, Protecting Childhood – Moral Teenage Model Collection, aims to find 100 children and teenagers aged between 7 and 14 years from remote areas of China who are able to demonstrate their appreciation for traditional Chinese virtues and who show good character even in the face of adversity. Selected children will then have the opportunity to broaden their horizons by travelling to Macao to learn more about Chinese culture by enjoying the show Monkey King.
“Sands China is very glad to be working with Beijing Hua Yan Group to bring this exciting stage production to Macao,” said Dave Horton, Global Chief Marketing Officer, Las Vegas Sands Corp & Sands China Ltd. “We are thrilled that the show is to be performed at the purpose-built Pacifica Theatre at Sands Cotai Central. We are equally thrilled to be able to use this opportunity to provide an avenue of cultural exchange that allows international audiences to gain a better understanding of Chinese art and culture, particularly a show based on the enduring work “Journey to the West”. Of course, the show will bring to local residents as well as tourists yet another exciting entertainment option, thereby further enhance the integrated resort experience and diversify the entertainment landscape in Macao.”
“We hope to showcase traditional Chinese virtues via a series of charity events and raise awareness of the development of Chinese children and teenagers,” said Beijing Hua Yan Group Chairman Xu Feng. “We think Monkey King is a great opportunity to do this. Our production team are leaders in their professions in China and it is for this reason that we think the production will not only become a cultural landmark of Macao, but also a brand new classic art piece from the Orient in the global commercial performance market. Meanwhile, I hope that the ‘Moral Teenage Model Collection’ initiative will continue, create a meaningful impact on society, and help to improve the living environment and quality of life of more outstanding teenagers.”
