Ranking list recognises best restaurants ‘that appeal to the Chinese taste’
(Macao, Aug. 15, 2016) – Smilin, the travel and gourmet brand under Ctrip, one of China’s largest and most successful travel service providers, has named five restaurants at Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao as “Smilin Excellence” and “Smilin One-Star” restaurants in a recent inaugural award ceremony. They are: The Venetian Macao’s Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Golden Peacock (Smilin Excellence), authentic Chinese eateries Canton (Smilin Excellence) and Elegant Seafood Restaurant (Smilin Excellence), Four Seasons Hotel Macao’s two Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant Zi Yat Heen (Smilin One-Star) and Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel’s warm and inviting Italian trattoria, Bene (Smilin Excellence).
There are three award categories in Smilin’s restaurant ranking list: “Smilin Star” (high-end restaurants with a higher budget), “Smilin Excellence” (signature restaurants with a local touch, medium price range) and “Smilin Local Snacks” (local flavour with lower prices).
During the award ceremony, the organiser announced its Southern China Region shortlist of 171 restaurants from 3,000 contenders across four cities, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao. Aimed primarily at mainland tourists, Ctrip describes Smilin as “a list recommending the most reliable restaurants worth a visit during travel and [that] appeal to the Chinese taste”. Around 860 restaurants in 20 cities across China and the rest of the world have already been recognised by Smilin.
The ceremony, which took place in Hong Kong on July 28, saw medals presented by a panel of leading industry figures, including renowned foodie and Smilin Board Member Chua Lam, Senior Vice President of Ctrip James Lan Tang and food columnist Kinson Loo. Other celebrity gastronomes also attended the event.
Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao offers a unique dining experience at each of its more than 150 restaurants and bars. From Italian classics and authentic Chinese delicacies, to Macanese favourites and global cuisine from Japan, India, Southeast Asia and more, there’s something special for every palate.
