Led by the Oral History Association of Macao
On July 23, around 25 team members spent the afternoon connecting their hearts with Macao’s culture. They met up at the A-Ma Temple, and then moved through Lilau Square, St. Lawrence’s Church and other significant sites, before concluding their tour at Senado Square. The Oral History Association of Macao guided the tour, deepening the participants’ understanding of the last 500 years of Macao’s unique history, which is a blend of Eastern and Western cultures.
And on July 31, around 25 team members spent the morning learning about the history of Macao, starting at Senado Square, and making their way to St. Dominic’s Church; Kuan Tai Temple, brimming with the charm of Chinese traditional culture; the Chinese architectural-style Rua de Felicidade; and other historical sites, finally ending at the Chiang Peng Theatre. They wound their way through Rua dos Mercadores, one of the city’s oldest streets, as their guides from the Oral History Association pointed out its many features that reflect the life of old Macao.
“I really learned a lot on these two tours,” said one of the participating team members. “I’ve of course been to most of these places before, but there’s all this information that I never knew about them. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable, so now it’s like I’ve seen these old places with new eyes. It actually makes me really proud to be from Macao.”
Sands China supports the all-round development of team members, and by organising cultural tours like these, the company hopes to help both local and non-local team members better understand Macao's intertwined history of colonial Portuguese and local Chinese culture, while also providing fun activities for them to participate in during their leisure time.
