Glitzy ceremony returns to The Venetian Theatre to honour Asia’s biggest stars
(Macao, March 17, 2016) – The 10th Asian Film Awards was held at The Venetian Macao on March 17 for the second consecutive year. Sponsored by Sands Resorts Cotai Strip Macao and The Venetian® Macao, with Cotai Water Jet as the Official Ferry Operator, the star-studded event saw a bevy of glamorous stars enjoy a night of celebration and awards. The Venetian Theatre, one of the most luxurious entertainment venues in Greater China, was once again the backdrop for the Asian Film Awards while the red carpet was rolled out for some of the biggest names in the region’s movie industry as they descended on Macao for the gala awards ceremony.
Film fans and celebrity spotters were thrilled to get a glimpse of their idols as a bevy of stars walked the red carpet at the main lobby of The Venetian Macao while photographers dazzled everyone as they snapped hundreds of photographs. Amongst the stars on show were Johnnie To, Yuen Wo Ping, Gigi Leung, Angie Chiu, Raymond Wong, Hins Cheung, Ivana Wong, Gao Yuan Yuan, Feng Xiao Gang, Jia Zhang Ke, Zhao Tao, Shu Qi, Amber An, Ko Chen Tung, Vivian Sung, Sophie Marceau, Lee Byung Hun, Ryoo Seung Wan, Yoo Ah In, APINK, Kiki Kirin, Nagase Masatoshi, Kore-eda Hirokazu, Asano Tadanobu and many more from around the globe.
Led by Johnnie To Kei-fung with celebrity guest judges Sean Lau Ching-wan and Gao Yuan-yuan, the jury presented awards in 15 categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Newcomer, Best Screenwriter, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Composer, Best Production Designer, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Designer, and the newly added Best Sound.

Founded by the Hong Kong International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival in late 2013, the Asian Film Awards Academy aims to promote, develop and enrich Asian cinema, its talent and audiences by organizing the Asian Film Awards and a diversity of other programmes across Asia by working closely with film, arts and culture partners from around the world.
