Sands China Invites CPTTM Local Designers to Showcase at Sands Macao Fashion Week

Second year of shining a spotlight on local fashion design talents

(Macao, Oct. 23, 2018) – Macao fashion designers have been prominently on display at this year’s Sands Macao Fashion Week, which began Thursday, Oct. 18 and runs until Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Sands Shoppes Macao. Local designers have featured throughout – in the opening and closing runway shows, and in a special week-long exhibition.

Friday’s opening runway show at Shoppes at Venetian featured Macao designer Nuno Lopes, who debuted his 2019 Spring/Summer collection at the show. Lopes is the first Macao fashion designer to be featured in Vogue magazine and to participate in London Fashion Week, and was a winner of the ‘Asia Top Young Fashion Designers’ award at Fashion Asia Awards 2016.

The Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) presented the final runway show of the week Sunday at Shoppes at Parisian’s Avenue Champs-Élysées. The Young Designers Runway Show featured 10 local designers showcasing new collections from the Macao fashion brands.

And since Oct. 18, CPTTM Fashion Rejuvenation—Exhibition of Eco-Friendly and Functional Fashion has been displaying the work of eight local designers whose creations make use of recycled, functional and eco-friendly fabrics. The exhibition is on display at the Rotunda of The Parisian Macao until the end of Sands Macao Fashion Week on Oct. 24.

“CPTTM is very pleased to have been invited once again to participate in Sands Macao Fashion Week,” said Shuen Ka Hung, director-general of CPTTM. “Fashion design is one of the key components of our cultural and creative industries, and we have been endeavouring to promote the development of Macao’s fashion industry for many years. The aim of our participation again this year is not only to showcase 10 outstanding Macao fashion brands, but also to highlight sustainable, original fashion that combines eco-friendly fabrics with functional technology to demonstrate the harmony of fashion and environmental sustainability. Our runway show and exhibition at The Parisian Macao serve as platforms for local fashion designers to showcase their work, while helping the public understand the trends in the local fashion industry.”

Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd., said: “Sands China considers it part of our responsibility to the community to support Macao’s cultural and creative industries. We are very pleased to be able to work with CPTTM again this year to offer a platform at our integrated resorts for these outstanding local fashion designers. Collaborations like these are part of our long-term partnership to support CPTTM’s initiative of nurturing local fashion design talent.”

Launched in October last year, Sands Macao Fashion Week is designed to showcase the many leading luxury and lifestyle fashion brands at Sands Shoppes Macao, which comprises Shoppes at Four Seasons, Shoppes at Venetian, Shoppes at Parisian and Shoppes at Cotai Central. The event offers fashion parades and other special events for both the industry and the public to enjoy, including runway and boutique shows, exhibitions and other fashion events.
