Sands China Holds DSAL Sharing Session on Labour Laws

Part of company’s efforts to foster a positive working environment

(Macao, Sept. 23, 2018) – Sands China Ltd. held a sharing session Thursday organised and offered by the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau, entitled Hotel Industry Law – Labour Relations, Rights and Obligations. The session was held at The Venetian® Macao’s Adelson Advanced Education Centre, attended by over 100 of Sands China’s management-level team members from various departments.

The session’s aims were to promote Macao’s labour laws and regulations, and to encourage workers’ and employers’ awareness, understanding and compliance with relevant labour legislation.

With a focus on common labour-management issues, Thursday’s session shed light on topics such as how to calculate wages, and the advance notice period and compensation for working on holidays. The use of case studies helped both employers and workers understand their respective legitimate rights and interests, thus promoting harmonious and stable labour-management relations.

“Our gratitude goes to the Labour Affairs Bureau for offering this sharing session for our team members,” said Hongyan Wen, senior vice president of human resources for Sands China Ltd. “We make a point of treating our team members in a fair, reasonable and respectful manner, and we believe in creating a safe and positive work environment for all our team members – one that ensures equal opportunity and encourages work-life balance and a healthy lifestyle.”

TSands China has been making efforts to promote a culture of respect and equity, including launching a company-wide training campaign in July dedicated to helping team members recognise and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace, which aims to train all of the company’s 28,000 team members by the end of the year.

In an effort to make Sands China Macao’s employer of choice, the company offers team members a benefits package that exceeds labour policy requirements. The company makes continual enhancements to the package, which includes the offering of a provident fund, accrual of unused sick leave as additional annual leave, and staff discounts on accommodations, dining and transportation. An occupational health and safety programme has been contributing to a safer work environment, and a recently launched myFITNESS campaign promotes team member well-being by encouraging a holistic approach to health and wellness.
