Sands China Provides Pre- and Post-Typhoon Mangkhut Relief Support

Aid includes meal distribution and home repair

(Macao, Sept. 17, 2018)– Sands China Ltd. has mobilised its resources to assist the Macao community in the immediate aftermath of Typhoon Mangkhut, which slammed into Macao Sunday.

The company also provided assistance before the storm made landfall, with Sands Cares Ambassadors visiting 16 live-alone elderly and disabled members of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance programme Saturday to make preparations for the typhoon, including taping windows shut to minimise storm damage, and providing bottled water and essential food items. The Ambassadors are revisiting them again today to provide further assistance. Sands China is also sending team members from its facilities department to help with household repairs as needed.

The company also provided parking spaces for the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM), Fuhong Society of Macau, Caritas Macau, and Macau Special Olympics to park a total of eight buses at The Parisian Macao prior to Mangkhut’s arrival, to prevent damage to the vehicles.

In addition, Sands Cares Ambassadors are teaming up with Caritas Macau to help deliver meal boxes prepared by Sands China for residents of the Elderly Centre at Illa Verde.

“Sands China considers it our social responsibility as a Macao corporation to help the city recover after natural disasters like Typhoon Mangkhut,” said Winnie Wong, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited. “It’s our role to do expend our resources to support the community to get back on its feet as quickly as possible.”

Sands China’s relief efforts, which began immediately after Saturday’s storm and remain ongoing, are part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
