Sands China Continues to Host Back-of-House SME Roadshows

(Macao, May 24, 2018) – Sands China recently featured two of its local SME suppliers at back-of-house roadshows at Sands® Macao, The Venetian® Macao, Sands® Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao, as part of Sands China’s Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme.

The roadshows are targeted at providing additional business opportunities for local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), micro-enterprises, young entrepreneurs, and “Made-in-Macao” enterprises, in line with Sands China’s commitment to further support local SME growth and procurement.

Local SME suppliers Chon Wa Catering Equipment Supply Co., Ltd. and Honor Electrical Engineering Maintenance Limited displayed approximately 60 of their products to nearly 30,000 Sands China team members between May 7 and May 17, offering them at a discounted price.

Founded several years ago by a young entrepreneur, Chon Wa initially provided engineering and design for kitchen equipment. But since 2015, the micro-enterprise has been a local supplier of heavy-duty kitchenware, catering utensils and equipment – including as the sole agent in Macao of several international kitchenware brands – and provides installation and maintenance services. Chon Wa was among the first group of local SME suppliers to graduate from the Sands Procurement Academy – an initiative that shares business knowledge and skills to local suppliers, helping them gain experience and capacity for working with large-scale international customers like Sands China.

The company’s director of business, Anthony Yip, said: “We learned some very useful information about working with large companies like Sands China from the Sands Procurement Academy, and an invitational matching session that we attended last year gave us the opportunity to successfully pitch our products directly to interested departments. The roadshow this month was also very beneficial for us. We gained a lot of new customers, and our kitchenware products were very well received.”

Sands China’s invitational matching sessions give local SME suppliers a platform for presenting and demonstrating their products and services to potential users and buyers at Sands China properties, with the company’s full support. The initiative is aimed at enhancing communication between vendors and users and improving the procurement success rate.

Honor is a supplier of home appliances that provides maintenance service, and is participating in an invitational matching session at the end of this month. Executive Director Danny Lo said: “As a micro-enterprise, it’s important for us to be able to reach out and make new business contacts as often as possible. We’re looking forward to connecting with some new potential buyers at the upcoming invitational matching session, and we also appreciated the chance we had to sell our products directly to Sands China staff at this month’s roadshow. The roadshow has helped give our company more exposure, and we were able to get some new customers as a result.”

Jaehong Choi, vice president of procurement and supply chain for Venetian Macau Limited, said: “Sands China has been engaged in a continuous effort to support local SMEs, and we’re very pleased to be seeing the fruits of our efforts. When local SME suppliers grow alongside our company’s success, it benefits all of Macao. We look forward to connecting with more local SMEs through our supplier support programme, and wish all of them continued success.”

Sands China regularly holds roadshows for its team members. They benefit SMEs by giving them access to direct business opportunities with customers, while giving Sands China’s team members a chance to enjoy discounted offers.

Sands China’s Local Small, Medium and Micro Suppliers Support Programme was jointly announced in July 2015 with the Macao Chamber of Commerce. The programme is in line with the Macao government’s initiative to “buy local” and demonstrates Sands China’s commitment to supporting local enterprises as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts. It is part of Sands China’s supplier relationship management strategy, which guides the company’s long-standing effort to support local suppliers, whom it views as its strategic partners.
