Sands China Partners with Macau IC2 Association to Hold Charity Walk

(Macao, May 2, 2018) – Sands China Ltd. and Macau IC2 Association have come together to organise the IC2 Charity Fund Fun Walk event, to be held Saturday, May 5, 2018. A total of 35 associations and 350 participants are being invited to the event, including children with special needs, their family members and volunteers.

Organised by a group of IC2 members with intellectual disabilities, the event aims to raise awareness of the wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities and to promote green travel, as well as to encourage more social interactions between the disabled and the able-bodied, in order to foster a more harmonious living environment. The entry fee is MOP 50 per person. Funds raised from the event will be used to support the association’s operating expenses.

Antonio Luis Leong, president of Macau IC2 Association, said: “I am very grateful for the recognition and encouragement given to IC2, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sands China; our parent organisation, the Association of Parents of the People with Intellectual Disabilities of Macau; the supporting entities; sponsors; and our friends and relatives for their support and generosity. It’s more blessed to give than to receive, and we hope that all sectors of the community will continue to support and lead us to do a better job in the future.”

The charity walk starts at 10 a.m. at Cotai Expo Hall D at The Venetian® Macao, and follows a route that includes Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança and the Avenida da Praia wetland in Taipa before finishing back at The Venetian Macao. Two booths featuring handmade artwork and latte art demonstrations will be set up at Hall D to showcase some of children’s talents. About 50 Sands China Care Ambassadors will be on hand to offer help and support during the event.

“Sands China is proud to partner with Macau IC2 Association for this meaningful event,” said Winnie Wong, vice president of corporate communications and community affairs for Venetian Macau Limited. “Working with valuable homegrown organisations like IC2 is at the heart of our efforts to support the community, and we hope this event will bring even more awareness and understanding of the wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities.”

The first-of-its-kind association to be led by members with intellectual disabilities in Macao, Macau IC2 Association is a self-help and non-profit organisation formed in 2016. The association’s name, IC2, stands for “I CAN TOO” (I am able to do it too). IC2 offers regular training courses and organises different kinds of events and visits for its members, providing a platform where they can develop and learn to express their feelings, needs and ideas.

Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like the IC2 Charity Fund Fun Walk as central to its commitment toward social causes and community involvement; it is one of the many ways the company expresses its care and spreads warmth to vulnerable and less-advantaged groups in the Macao community.

Sands China’s community work is part of Sands Cares, the global corporate citizenship programme of parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp.
