Sands China Extends Its Participation in Earth Hour in Macao

(Macao, January 17, 2013) – In its ongoing effort to promote environmental sustainability and to support Sands ECO360°, the global green initiative of Las Vegas Sands Corp., Sands China Ltd. is proud to announce that Sands® Cotai Central’s Conrad Macao is the first of its Cotai Strip® properties to extend its participation in Earth Hour beyond just March to every month of the year, beginning in January 2013.

On January 17, the luxurious Conrad Macao, Cotai Central turned off its exterior facade lights and non-essential indoor lighting as both a symbolic and practical extension of its participation in Earth Hour, an annual global event each March that encourages households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness on climate change. Conrad Macao will continue to do so on the first Tuesday of every month in 2013.

“Sands China’s properties have participated in Earth Hour each March,” said Mark McWhinnie, Senior Vice President of Operations of The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel and Sands Cotai Central. “We are very proud that our Conrad Macao team is taking the initiative to be the first of our Macao properties to extend the benefits of Earth Hour to every month of the year."

Conrad Macao will be proposing a friendly challenge to Macao’s hotels and resorts as part of Earth Hour's global ’I Will If You Will’ campaign, offering to increase its switching off of the facade and non-essential indoor lighting to twice a month, if 10 other Macao hotels agree to join in the effort once a month.

The Las Vegas Sands Corp. Sands ECO360° programme has a primary objective of continuously improving the company’s stewardship of the environment. In addition to the company’s participation in Earth Hour, another example of the policy put into action at its Cotai Strip properties is in the area of water conservation. The Venetian Macao saves a total of 342 million litres of water annually -- enough to fill 120 Olympic-sized swimming pools. These and other environmentally sound measures have helped both The Venetian Macao and Sands® Macao earn the Macao SAR government’s coveted Macao Green Hotel Award.
