(Macao,
February 21, 2013) – Sands
China Ltd. carried on its Chinese New Year
tradition Thursday, inviting a group of 100 elderly members from the Macao
General Union of Neighborhood Associations to enjoy a tea buffet at Bambu at
The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel. Volunteers from the Sands China
Care Ambassador programme shared a delightful afternoon over a delicious meal
with their special guests, exchanging good wishes for the Year of the Snake.
This is the sixth consecutive year Sands
China has organised this Chinese
New Year tea buffet gathering with local elderly. Fifteen SCCA volunteers
accompanied their guests to the restaurant and assisted them in taking food
from the buffet tables. While savouring the Asian favourites and local
specialties, the participating guests were treated to The Venetian Macao’s
signature Streetmosphere™ performances and were invited to sing and dance
together. Each was given a fortune bag as a warm gesture for welcoming the Year
of the Snake.
“It’s always a pleasure to spend
time with one of the most important groups in our community,” said Melina
Leong, Vice President of Public Relations and Community Affairs, Venetian Macau
Limited. “We’re very delighted to be able to carry on this annual tradition and
join hands with the Macao General Union of Neighborhood Associations this year
on the event, and we know that it has been a rewarding experience both for the
elderly and for our Sands China Care Ambassadors. The Venetian Macao and the SCCA
look forward to another successful Chinese New Year gathering with the local
elderly next year.”
“Every one of our participating members
had a great time with the volunteers,” said Ng Siu Lai,
Director General of the Macao General Union of Neighborhood Associations. “I would like to express my greatest gratitude to
Sands China for continuing this meaningful initiative to celebrate the important
Spring Festival holiday with the local elderly. They enjoyed not only the food
and the entertainment, but also spending time chatting with the ambassadors.”
The Sands China Care Ambassador
Program aims to give Sands China employees an opportunity to serve the local
community by helping to make Macao
a better place to live, while contributing to its development. With a current
membership of 370 volunteers coming together from across all Sands China
properties – The Venetian Macao, Sands® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and
Sands® Cotai Central – the Sands China Care Ambassadors have
contributed over 2,700 voluntary hours of community service since the programme was founded in August
2009. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like this one central to its
commitment towards community outreach and service.
