Asia's prestigious award ceremony makes Macao debut
(Macao, May 22, 2012) - Organised by Southern Metropolis Daily, one of the most influential media publications in mainland China, the illustrious 12th Chinese Music Media Awards will be held this year at the luxurious Venetian Theatre on June 30, bringing a group of Asia's most well-known singers and musicians to Macao for the first time. As host, The Venetian® Macao has also partnered with Southern Metropolis Daily as the Premier Sponsor of this important event.
The theme of this year's Chinese Music Media Awards is "Music Ark," with the organiser hoping to deliver a message that the award-winning musicians and compositions will be like "Noah's Ark in the flood," leading the Chinese music scene into a new era. Two rising stars, Yoga Lin from Taiwan and Tan Weiwei from mainland China, have been chosen as ambassadors of the prominent awards event. A May 18 press conference in Guangzhou announced nominees, including "Best Mandarin Male/Female Singer", "Best Cantonese Male/Female Singer", "Mandarin Album of the Year", "Best Cantonese Album of the Year", "Mandarin Song of the Year", "Artist of the Year" and "Cantonese Song of the Year". Gus Liem, Vice President of Entertainment, Venetian Macau Limited, said at the press conference, "The Venetian Macao has been the venue for many award ceremonies since 2009 and we are truly happy to host this awards show for the Chinese market. Since opening The Venetian Macao integrated resort in 2007, we've had almost two million people attend our entertainment events. Sands China Ltd. is firmly committed to establishing Macao as Asia's leading leisure and entertainment destination. We look forward to continuing our tradition of bringing to Macao the best that China and the world have to offer."
Cui Xianghong, Deputy Editor-In-Chief of Southern Metropolis Daily, said, "Southern Metropolis Daily has been striving to be the 'best newspaper in China' and uphold the social responsibilities of the media. We hope to join hands with additional diverse industries, and to promote integration between the industries and the media, in order to further push forward the development of the entertainment and music industries." Sands China is a strong believer in the importance of the cultural enrichment and development of Macao through the arts. The addition of the Venetian Theatre looks to play a key role in hosting the best of Chinese and international entertainment with a luxurious and personal experience like no other in the region. The 12th Chinese Music Media Awards is the latest example of the diversity of entertainment Sands China strives to bring to Macao, allowing the local community a chance to enjoy some of the world's best entertainment acts. Artists featured in recent performances include world-renowned violinist Jue Yao, Hong Kong diva Elisa Chan, the China National Symphony Orchestra, China's top three tenors and Cantopop star Hacken Lee.
