(Macao, November 13, 2012) - Mr.Francis Ford Coppola and Mrs. Eleanor Coppola, owners of the Inglenook winery, paid a special visit to The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel October 24, to introduce the fine wines of Inglenook®.
At a private wine dinner at Portofino, the Coppolaswere joined by Sands China Ltd. President and Chief Executive Officer Edward Tracy, Mrs. Janet Tracy and a select group of guests from the hotel and food and beverage industries, who were all treated to a sumptuous feast starring wine from the Inglenook estate, in California's celebrated Napa Valley.
"It was an honour to host Mr. and Mrs. Coppola at The Venetian Macao, and everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the great food, and of course, Inglenook's exquisite wines," Mr. Tracy noted.
Inglenook is one of America's original great wine estates, established in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum. The Coppolas bought part of the historic estate in 1975 with the proceeds from the first two Godfather films, after falling in love with the estate's natural beauty while searching for a small family property. 1978 saw the Coppola's first harvest - a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot - named "Rubicon". For more than three decades, the Coppolas have tirelessly restored the iconic Inglenook estate to its original configuration, as designed by Niebaum 133 years ago.
The wine dinner's venue, Portofino, serves traditional Italian fare in a contemporary setting. It earned - along with The Venetian Macao's Morton's The Steakhouse - a Restaurant Award from U.S.-based Wine Spectator for its excellent wine programme in 2012. The recognition demonstrates The Venetian Macao's commitment to bring the best dining experience to the city, as part of its long-term effort in making Macao a world centre of tourism and leisure, and the premier destination in Asia for business and leisure travellers.
