( Macao , May 25, 2012) – Another of the world’s most famous festival experiences descended on Macao today as The Venetian Macao welcomed for the second year, The Venetian Carnival, which will take place throughout this weekend, featuring a New Orleans Mardi Gras theme.

Supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office, The Venetian Carnival is Macao ’s definitive entertainment event and includes three days of festivities, food and Asia ’s richest Jazz & Blues contest.

The picturesque Campanile Tower and the Lagoon, which have been transformed into a delightful array of festival booths, fan fare, dancers and entertainment by the likes of the Pine Leaf Boys and the Michael Foster Project brass band. Visitors enjoyed New Orleans-inspired booths selling trinkets, alongside local and international food and beverages. Highlights of opening night were the brass band parade through The Venetian Macao and six bands competing for a prize pool of HK$500,000, including Nok Kyun Kim, Spoke, Main Squeeze, Theo Croker, Tinho Pereira and Ginda and The White Flowers.

Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sands China Ltd. officiated the opening ceremony saying, “We are proud to lead the way in bringing the Cotai Strip to life. This weekend, visitors to Macao are going to be treated to absolute world-class entertainment from The Venetian Carnival. We’ll witness 12 bands perform, having travelled from as far away as Korea, Brazil, the United States, France and Indonesia, as well as from China, Hong Kong and, I’m proud to say, from Macao itself.”
