An American funk/soul band of the 1970s and 1980s, the Commodores® are best known for ballads such as "Easy" and "Three Times a Lady." After signing with record company Motown in November 1972, the Commodores® sold over 60 million records for the company and racked up a string of hits including "Machine Gun," "Sail On" and "Brick House." In 1986, the group won their first Grammy Award for the multi-platinum smash single and LP "Night Shift," but they have not rested on their early hits and have continued to put out quality work. The successful Commodores® of the present consist of drummer Walter "Clyde" Orange, guitarist William "WAK" King and vocalist James Dean "J.D." Nicholas, and have not only produced six new albums, but have also created their own record label, Commodores Records and Entertainment.
