(Macao, July 1, 2012) – The illustrious 12th Chinese Music Media Awards was successfully held at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel’s luxurious Venetian Theatre Saturday, bringing a group of Asia’s most well-known singers, musicians and critics of different music genres to Macao for the first time. A total of 43 awards recognising the recipients’ talent and contribution to the Chinese music scene were also conferred in the ceremony.
Hundreds of singers and musicians from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan were nominated for the 43 awards across a variety of music genres and categories. Among them, there were seven special “100 Schools of Media Awards”, and Melina Leong, Vice President of Public Relations & Community Affairs for Venetian Macau Limited and also Nuno Lopez, Executive Director of Entertainment for Venetian Macau Limited, presented the “Most Popular Male Artist of the Year” and “Stage Performance of the Year” awards respectively to Anthony Wong and Ekin Cheng on stage.
Moreover, “Best Mandarin Male Singer” and “Best Mandarin Female Singer” went to Wang Feng and Wei Ruxuan respectively; “Best Cantonese Male Singer” and “Best Cantonese Female Singer” went to Paul Wong and Kay Tse respectively; “Mandarin Album of the Year” went to Wang Feng’s <Life Asks For Nothing>; “Cantonese Album of the Year” went to Chet Lam/ Shin Wong’s <Requiem For Flowers >; “Mandarin Song of the Year” went to Eason Chan/ Faye Wong’s “Because love”; “Cantonese Song of the Year” went to C Allstar’s “Ladder to the Stars”; and “Artist of the Year” went to Zuoxiao Zuzhou. The ceremony also recognised the Best Artist in Folk Music, Jazz and Blues, Hip Hop and Rap, R&B/Soul and Dance, the “Best Music Band”, as well as the “Best Songwriter”, “Best Composer” and “Best Music Arranger”.
And before the awards ceremony kicked off, celebrities and guests were invited to walk the red carpet between 5 pm and 6 pm, attracting more than a hundred of flashing cameras and adoring fans as everyone was eager to witness the glamour and glitter of the occasion.
The Chinese Music Media Awards is the first music awards show in China to be established in accordance with the American Grammy Awards mechanism. Founded by Southern Metropolis Daily, one of the most influential media publications in mainland China in January 2000, the awards aim at “restoring the nature of music” with “independence, being open-minded and with humanities.” The theme of the 12th Chinese Music Media Awards was “Music Ark,” with the organiser hoping to deliver a message that the award-winning musicians and compositions would be like “Noah’s Ark in the flood,” leading the Chinese music scene into a new era.
As host, The Venetian® Macao also partnered with Southern Metropolis Daily as the Premier Sponsor of this important event of the year.
