(Macao, August 19, 2012) - Sands China Ltd. participated in the One Day Volunteer 2012 event for the fourth consecutive year Sunday, where 70 Sands China Care Ambassadors spent a joyful day with members of the Macau Association of Support for the Disabled and the Macao Association for the Parents of the Mentally Handicapped. The continuous support of volunteer service demonstrates Sands China's dedication to fostering harmony, respect for differences and acceptance of people with disabilities in the local community.
Sands China took part in two of the 24 activities held this year for the One Day Volunteer event, organised by the Macau Youth Volunteers Association annually since 2000. Around thirty members of the Macau Association of Support for the Disabled joined the Sands China Care Ambassadors to paint a large poster themed on 'One Day Volunteer' at the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau's Tamagnini Barbosa Activity Centre on Sunday morning. Through this event, the ambassadors were able to understand the lives and difficulties of people with physical impairments, while the association's members could showcase their talent and creativity, thus boosting their self confidence.
In addition, another thirty members of the Macao Association for the Parents of the Mentally Handicapped and their children worked hand-in-hand with the Sands China Care Ambassadors to produce home decorations and handicrafts on Sunday afternoon at the Tamagnini Barbosa Activity Centre. After that, they were invited to visit Ice World, Asia's largest indoor ice sculpture exhibition, at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel. The magnificent ice carvings amazed the families and brought them lots of fun and joy. Interacting with people with intellectual disabilities gave the ambassadors an opportunity to get to know more about them - a very important aspect of encouraging social integration and respect for disadvantaged people in society as a whole.
Each of the 60 participating members in the two activities also received a gift pack from the Macau Youth Volunteers Association and a signature souvenir from Sands China, as a way to share their happiness and joyful memories with families and friends.
