Company offers numerous employment opportunities for Macao locals
(Macao, February 29, 2012) – With the eyes of the community very firmly fixed on the upcoming launch of Sands® Cotai Central and its three world-renowned hotel brands, Sands China Ltd. took the opportunity on Sunday, February 26 and Monday February 27 to tap into the pool of local talent on a massive scale at its Sands China Recruitment Fair at the Macao Federation of Trade Unions Workers Stadium near the Border Gate. Over 500 job offers were made on site at the major event.
“As is evident by this fair, the company continues to focus its efforts on the recruitment of local talent wherever possible,” said Mr. Antonio Ramirez, Senior Vice President of Human Relations, Venetian Macau Ltd. “Of the 20,000-plus team members we currently employ, more than 16,000 team members are local hires – that represents 80 percent of our employees, despite the severe competitiveness of the market in Macao. The promotion of 1,000 local team members last year alone is a testament to the employment practices of Sands China and the opportunities for advancement we offer. As part of our effort to develop team members, they’ve undergone more than 75,000 training hours in 2011, in various training and development programmes like Grooming, Management Development, Languages and Job Skills Building.”
2012 has already seen 915 local team members promoted in January and February, with another 351 promotions to take place in March. Since July 2011, Sands China has hosted 21 recruitment fairs at The Venetian Macao to recruit local talent, with eleven job fairs seeking dealers and ten job fairs of a much larger scale offering a variety of positions. In all, more than 5,000 positions at Sands China were filled by locals last year. Sunday and Monday’s fair at Workers Stadium – attended by more than 2,000 people between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm on the two days – was firmly focused on the employment of local residents and primarily on positions like Security, Food & Beverage, Hotel Operations, Housekeeping, Facilities and Shuttle Services, with close to 600 either offered positions on the spot or invited for further interviews and skills assessments, across all employment categories.
