Fifth Management Seminar Successfully Held at Venetian Macao

Helps foster local talent and spreads green practices

(Macao, May 22, 2012) – As part of the effort toward helping cultivate local talent and promoting environmental awareness in Macao, Sands China Ltd., in collaboration with the Macau Institute of Management (MIM), held the fifth seminar of “A Complete Management World Forum Series,” themed as “Green Building and Sustainability,” Thursday (May 17) at the Adelson Advanced Education Center at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel.

The role of corporate social responsibility in sustainability development has been a worldwide issue. With the emergence of the green building concept, "zero-carbon buildings" with no net energy consumption and no carbon emissions can now be found in various parts of the world. After completing a green building, facilities management in daily operations plays a major role in ensuring effective energy saving. Hence, two veteran industry experts, Luisa Geraldes, Director of Sustainability of Venetian Macau Limited. and K.Y. Tsang, Training Consultant of the Macau Institute of Management, were invited to the seminar to share with the participants successful case studies and tips on how to operate green while preserving building sustainability. Around 70 members from the fields of facilities management, operations and building maintenance and construction from Sands China Ltd. and other local organizations joined the two-hour seminar from 3 to 5 pm.

Geraldes overlooks the Macao implementation of the Sands China Ltd. global sustainability programme, Sands Eco 360°, implemented across all Las Vegas Sands Corp. properties with the objective to care for and preserve the environment. In April this year, the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macao SAR government recognised The Venetian Macao for its environmental sustainability efforts with a 2011 Macao Green Hotel Award, assigning the integrated resort a gold category designation – the highest possible ranking. The award markedly demonstrates the resort’s ongoing commitment in promoting property-wide initiatives toward environmental conservation. K.Y. Tsang, a UK Chartered Environmentalist, gave a talk about green building and sustainability and led a discussion on administrative and management control measures such as legislative control, applying ISO 14000 and ISO 50000, energy audit and system optimization.

“A Complete Management World Forum Series” seeks to promote ongoing education and learning initiatives and to develop management professionals in Macao who are aware of thelatest market trends. Thursday’s seminar followed four successful ones with different themes held in May, July and November 2011 and January 2012. Sands China Ltd. and MIM signed a Memorandum of Understanding in April 2011, setting the foundation for their collaboration in supporting the education, professional development and continuous learning of the Macao community.

Founded in 1988, MIM is a subsidiary of Macau Management Association and is committed to providing the highest quality education and continuous learning programs to different industry sectors. Sands China helps promote regional economic development and provides both on-thejob and professional trainings and career development programs to its team members, in its commitment to developing local talent in Macao.
