Sands China Volunteers Celebrate Chinese New Year with Macao Elderly

100 elderly enjoy tea buffet at Bambu at The Venetian Macao

(Macao, February 9, 2012) - One hundred Macao elderly were invited to join a Chinese New Year gathering at The Venetian® Macao last Thursday (February 2), to celebrate the auspicious Year of the Dragon. This is the fifth consecutive year that Sands China has celebrated the Lunar New Year with local elderly.

Volunteers from the Sands China Care Ambassador programme warmly welcomed and escorted the group, who came from various elderly centres of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, to the restaurant Bambu to enjoy a tea buffet and entertainment by the Streetmosphere™ performers of The Grand Canal Shoppes. New Year gift packs were given to each guest, including noodles symbolising wishes of long life, herbal oil provided by H&B Medicine Shop and other gifts. The happy group, the performers and the volunteers ended the festive occasion with a group photo.

"It's always a pleasure to spend time with one of the most important groups in our community," said Melina Leong, Vice President of Community Relations, Venetian Macau Limited. "We're very happy to work with the Macau Federation of Trade Unions on this event and we know that it has been a rewarding experience for those who have participated. The Venetian Macao and the Sands China Care Ambassadors look forward to another successful Chinese New Year's outing next year." "We're having a great time with everyone," Ms. Ella Lei, Vice Director General of the Macau General Trade Union said. "I would like to express my greatest gratitude to Sands China for taking the initiative to celebrate the New Year with the elderly from the Union and I can see from the smiling faces of the elderly that they are very much delighted to meet the Ambassadors and performers of Sands China again this year at this festive activity. I wish all the participants good health in the Year of the Dragon."

The Sands China Care Ambassador Program was officially launched in August 2009, and aims to give Sands China staff an opportunity to serve the local community by helping to make Macao a better place to live, while contributing to its development. As of January 2012, more than 320 volunteers from The Venetian® Macao, Sands® Macao and the Plaza™ Macao have participated in various community activities and have already performed over 2,300 hours of community service to low income families, disadvantaged groups and the elderly, as well as to the community at large. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like this one central to its commitment towards community outreach and service.
