Four world-class players teach skills to delighted MSO participants
(Macao, December 7, 2011) – Although an injury kept badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei from playing in last week’s Macau Open, it didn’t stop him from sharing his gift for the sport with appreciative members of the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) Saturday.
Lee and three other Badminton World Federation (BWF) players – Wang Zhengming, Zhang Zhibo and Wang Rong – led a badminton clinic at the CotaiArena™ at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel, with 32 MSO athletes in attendance. After meeting and taking photos with the enthusiastic participants, the globally-ranked players demonstrated badminton skills to some of the MSO athletes. Doubles matches followed, with the pros serving as judges for the MSO players’ games. And in a bout that is sure to remain etched in the memories of the lucky participants, Lee and Wang Zhengming each paired with an MSO player for a fun and exciting pro-am doubles match.
After the winners received their congratulatory souvenirs, all 32 MSO athletes were invited to stay and watch the semi-finals of the 2011 Kumpoo® Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold tournament. The November 29 to December 4 BWF Level 3 event featured some of the world’s top badminton players and awarded around MOP 1,600,000 in total prize money.
